Personal Message from HMA's Founder

This web site is dedicated to all of the professionals who served HMA and its clients, and it was created to answer most of the questions that I have received  about what happened to Healthcare Management Advisors - HMA.

HMA was a great firm that provided Clinical Data Quality and Compliance Services to hospitals, physicians, and other healthcare providers and their attorneys nationwide.  In fact, HMA served over 25% of all US acute care hospitals and hundreds of physicians.

What Happened to HMA?
After founding and managing HMA for 10+ years and directing healthcare consulting practices for 20+ years, I started looking in 2000 for a new professional challenge outside of HMA.  We had received a couple of offers from other national firms to buy HMA, but at the request of our then Senior VP, I agreed in 2001 to sell my controlling interest back to the firm and allow her to become the President of HMA.

In September 2001, I sold 85% of my stock in HMA, but stayed on a part time basis as its Chairman and Editor of Strategy Advisor.  HMA's business continued to be successful, as expected, and in August 2002, I sold my remailning 15% interest in HMA, and resigned as Chairman and all other positions at HMA to pursue other business interests and "semi" retirement..

Regrettably, HMA's business collapsed in 2003 after I left the firm.  Seeing the business that I founded 13 years ago turn into a disaster was depressing, but it has shown me that my faith is only well placed when I truly trust God for what I need.  And after all, I did pray for a new professional challenge and, as my father said,  "retirement" is not a Biblical concept.

What's Going on Now
In 2001, after I sold 85% of HMA, I started ABA - American Benefit Advisors with the help of other insurance industry professionals - see www.GoABA.com for more information.  We are licensed in multiple states and we specialize in providing employee benefit plans for groups of 2 to 2,000, including  healthcare providers and other small to mid-sized organizations.

Later in 2002, HLN - Health Law Network was created in response to numerous requests for help from healthcare attorneys and providers for Medicare compliance and litigation support, many of whom I have worked with over the past 30+ years -  see www.HLNetwork.com for more information.

For all of you that have been clients, staff and friends of HMA in the past, I thank you for the confidence you expressed in the firm and in me.  I thank God for the blessings He has given to me and my family, and I will strive to continue to  find opportinities to serve others in the future.  Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help you.
